Hello guys, I'm pretty new to the group and am from a small town in Eastern WA. Ferry County just deployed Pyramid in-car repeater systems hooking up to Motorola XTL 5000 mobiles. The mobile/portable sets are in-band VHF, but the one that was set up in the jail was cross band UHF-VHF. Both are working great so far, in fact the biggest problem seemed to be teaching the users to use their radios properly. Question is... has anyone heard of problems or things I should test on these units? Potential issues to be aware of? etc? I know about the history of vehicular repeaters, but specifically these Pyramids if anyone knows any pitfalls to them I'd love to test them. |

I can't comment on Pyramid, but am familiar with the area. Those must be an improvement. Does that work well east of the crest too? That would be a hard county to have portable coverage in. |

Pyramid SVRS are top notch! I've used one once and it works flawlessly as long as your inband filters are set right, but the installer has to be certified by Pyramid in the first place. |

We had a contractor set them up and they are working great on both sides of Sherman Pass. The only complaint is regarding the occasional tone, which I think I can disable. Simply put, if the mobile works, then so does the portable. The low power distance they can safely get without problems is about 1/4 mile from the vehicles unless inside a building (in-band only). That is more than adequate; because it's not often the deputies are that far from their wheels. Thanks for the input guys. |
