Does anyone have a link or info on a short, HELPFUL tutorial for entering/storing/loading V-Scanner folders in a PSR500?

I have a bunch of info for other areas that is cluttering up my radio, and I want to try putting it in these folders. My attempt today did not go well. I tried downloading, converting and uploading some of the files from the wiki, and I use PSREdit. Let's just say, it was a no go.

Then I tried loading the only folder left in the radio from when I first got it, the Washington/Oregon/Nevada/Utah one. It sucked very much badly. When I wanted to go back to the old configuration, I had to hand-enter EVERY SINGLE THING. PSREdit tried to import all my old stuff into one scanlist. Fail again.

I've had this radio for 3 years now, and every single day I am prepared to run it through the garbage disposal.

Anything would help.

I use mine VERY LITTLE
Less frustrating that way...

The hobby has gotten to a place that the radios are smarter than the users. I'm in the exact position...I love my 393T

I use V-Scanners in my PRO-96 a lot but I have never had much luck in getting to them thru the PC/IF port from the laptop. My KISS alternative is to load each p500 file into the main scanner memory and then use the keypad on the scanner to move or store the file into each V-Scanner memory.

What I'm just looking for is a way to one-touch it.

Example- I use the radio around here for months at a time. On a whim, I head to Spokane, Vegas or Moyock for the weekend. When I arrive, I select the folder for that area, which I've already programmed ahead of time.

When I return, I select the default for home.

Is there a way to do this, or is it just a pipe dream?

Thanks Ken- I was looking at that last night.

If I'm reading it right, the steps are:

1- Store my current configuration in a V-folder
2- Wipe the radio clean with the power on-0-1 keystrokes
3- Program it the way I want
4- Store the new configuration(s) in another V-folder

This look right to anyone?

Yeah damn hobby has gotten too complicated over the years.
Ive gota psr500 too, only use it Ummmm maybe once a year... now that I have the Uniden bcd396xt
a much easier radio to understand.

Don't get me too wrong; I love the radio for certain things, like the CCdump for tracking trunked systems, the radio ID decoder, and Spectrum Sweeper for road trips.

It's just one hell of a learning curve, and most instruction guides are more primers than helpful.

I don't feel like I'm operating the PSR so much as I'm just there, sharing the GRE experience...And, if I can do something useful while the radio is willing, so much the better.

I am not sure you need to wipe the radio unless you want to build from scratch in the radio.

Just load your PSR file to the radio.
move it to the desired V location.
load another file to the radio from PSR
move it to a different V location.

When you are done you can restore your local setup either from PSR or the V-scanner memory.

I have file tags that say V1-Seattle, V2-SW Wash, V7-SE Wash, V8-Portland and I also have these listed on the "welcome" screen when the scanner powers up so I know which file was loaded last.

I have one exactly like this one! :D

Nothing the 396XT won't do.

The PSR500 is pretty damn complicated. I remember I grabbed yours once looking for the tune function and ended up handing it back and making you do it.

I did too, it replaced an eariler one which crapped out after a couple of years. I have never loaded a V file. I tried to once and would rather replace a head gasket.
