I have an old Bearcat 220 that I still use occasionally. I turned it on the other day and found it displaying odd frequencies, a far cry from what was programed. In addition a couple of the small leds in the display weren't showing.

I went to enter a frequency and it displayed something totally different. As an example I attempted to program 154.235. After pushing the enter key it display something like: 123.070 or something similar. Some of the frequencies it displays are in the 30.00-35.00 range and others in the 120-135.000 range. This happened once before and the problem disappeared after leaving it on for several hours. This time I have left in on for several days and it hasn't corrected itself.

Does anyone have a clue as to what is happening or if it can be fixed. I still have my handheld, it is just that the 220 seems to be more sensitive in picking up signals.

Would appreciate any information.

I have a 210 xl that did the same thing. It was displaying 900 mhz display which was totally out of band. I just reentered the correct freq and it worked. Mine has a volatile memory which is only remedied by a 9 volt battery in place. If it goes dead, the memory is gone and it reverts to crap. It helps to leave it on for a while to reset itself, the vol pot also is scratchy but some spray would probably fix this. They are good scanners.

You probably already checked this, but does it have a CPU reset switch? Usually on the rear of the chassis. Recessed so you have to use a tooth pick or similar to depress it. Just a thought.
