Everything working just is deaf, tried different antennas. There is a red L.E.D. on the board it is not lit, is it suppost to be? What is it function? Everything is tight I don't see any loose solder joints. Any place to start looking?

don't know anything about the scanner but just the basics

you sure its not a volume issue? squelch etc... headphones get any reaction putting squelch up to 100% etc

could also try a reset on the CPU no idea what that is for sure normally holding down 2 number keys at boot up.

Yep solder joints are the #1 problem with those 220's. Next you should check the voltage regulators. Otherwise there is an op-amp that likes to die (LM358? heck I don't remember). Been there, done that.

I was messing with it today and the weather bearly drifted in for about 1 sec. then faded out. Will make a good parts radio if can't be fixed. Vol. & Squelch work. It acts like there is no antenna hooked up.

Seems there is a power resistor on the bottom of the board 1/2 watt size 1000 ohm that gets "soldering iron hot" Can't seem to find it in the service manual.

Also be sure to verify that the DC to DC converter output is 25V.
This circuit provides the juice to the VCO and RF "Track Tuning".
Often C98 will fail and cause reduced or no voltage output.
