I'm going to be going to Haiti as a medic next month. I'm curious if anyone here knows if there are any unlicensed VHF freqs for use there, similar to MURS. I was thinking about programming up a couple of radios to communicate with team members, as cell coverage is spotty and VERY expensive. I googled, but didn't find anything. |

Last time I went somewhere like that for that sort of thing, we had bubble-pack FRS radios for about a week, until we got other stuff shipped in. We also had Nextel-style PTT sat phones, but they were expensive as hell and only to be used for emergencies. |

I think you can use PMR446 stuff from Europe in Haiti... |

I kinda doubt there'd be any problems with whatever you use there. ...but, try to pin down what other similar groups are already using there so you'll be able to talk to them. If they're using commercial gear ask those groups for their frequencies and get them programmed in your unit before you leave. Radio techs are hard enough to find in the US let alone Haiti. |

It's not like they have a functioning Govt to enforce radio law! |
