Preferably tri-bander with RX on everything under the sun. Do not want want some small freaking child's toy (i.e. Kenwood TH-F6A) Drop in charger would also be nice. Taking the test on Saturday, feeling confident in the outcome. Somewhere around $300ish? |

APRS if your into it. You can buy a rapid charger, if you do buy the radio, Get at least one of the larger batteries standard battery is small and aprs drains it. Also you can buy a clam shell for AA batteries. Not a bad radio, I have the V-8R and ahave been pretty happy with it. It's got some pretty neat features if you motorbike or snowmobile, bluetooth capapble, but haven't played with that yet. Also you can buy programming software and cable to help program and manage banks. A Powerful device in a smaller package. |

Just the technician Jim. Ive come to figure out its just a practice in memorization. I may try the general and extra later this year. Nice taco....nice. Is that what you call a quad-band? |

Yes, and it has the advantage of having four tuners. You can mix and match bands as needed. |

Mark's right...VX-7 is a great radio. I bought Taco's!! But if you want a comparable radio and to save a few greens, look at the VX-6 too. You aren't going to find to many of them anymore that aren't but about palm size. http://www.yaesu.com/indexvs.cfm?cmd=Di ... Archived=0 Click on the "Files" tab and look at the brochure. I had one and sold it when I bought the VX-7. I think it was about $225 from HRO in Portland. Order it Monday morning and brown Santa will have it on your doorstep Tuesday afternoon! :D Good luck with the test. I'm sure you will whip right through it!! Edit: I just looked at the HRO page. The VX-7 is $320 and the VX-6 is $260 right now. |

It's not a tri-bander, but I'm VERY happy with my Icom IC-92AD. I also have a yaesu vx-7... and much prefer the icom all the way around. |

Quite a few of the Snohomish County DEM/SAR folks are buying that radio - in both the 144/440 and 144/220 versions. One of them, a tech for SERS (Sno Co 800 system) took one to the bench. It performed within spec, and didn't falter on the 5 minute high power key down test. He gave it a good overall review. And, the price is right - even the accessories. You'll probably see a lot of them hanging on the belts of Hams at the hamfests this year. Oh - and 220 is alive and well on the west side. Quite a few good high and low level machines - a few of them quite active. 220 is my favorite band. Brad. |
