Good morning all!

Instructor starts going through a box that a graduate brought in. In the bottom was this radio complete with drop-in charger and REAL leather holster. Has RJ45 pigtail out of shoulder mic, in thinking to utilize the shoulder mic for a mic for mobile. It also has a DB-25 connector eminating from a spliced cable that is plugged into the headphone jack. (Programming?) Appears to be some sort of ham radio. TX on 441-ish. Appears to have knob on the top for the +/- 600 offset. Interesting find. I'm wondering if the AT&T post-it note means anything besides a wiring diagram.

Forget about the vintage brick... I've had a bird meter on my X-mas wish list for years. No one has ever come through for me ;)

Joey is sitting there playing with the radio and spectrum analyzer, keying it up and watching the analyzer. Instructor comes over and says, "What are you doing?" Joey replies, "Oh, trying to find out what frequency this transmits on." Instructor replies, "Well, you do realize that whatever frequency it is, you don't have a license to transmit on it? You could get in a lot of trouble for that." Joey rolls his eyes.

Here is some further info on the 207R, about halfway down the page:

If Joey is a licensed ham and said radio is on hamatuer, then Joey gets a star for the day.

If you're transmitting into an analyzer terminated with a load then the instructor needs to sick of a 50ohm load in his mouth cause that open port is bleeding noise.

I did too.

It was just sitting there with a cheap antenna hooked up to the spectrum analyzer. Sooooooo...technically it was transmitting -- no dummy load on either one and it wasn't transmitting directly to the analyzer. Soooooooo....technically it was "illegal" but there are enough spurious emissions in this building, let alone this lab area, that it hardly could be received on the outside especially since this building is an impenetrable RF fortress.
