Agreed with Rich. I had the Ferret at one point, and ended up dumping it after a small mishap. I'd drop the money into a discone, either the Diamond or similar. I personally had great luck with a VHF/UHF milsurp discone, adding a 10-meter whip to the top for increased low band coverage. Added to that install a yagi (thanks Marcus!) with an antenna rotator, and I was in business.
Don't bother with the Scantenna. I had one for less than a month; it was a craptacular pile of steaming dung.
