A little pricey when you consider that its nothing more than a trapped dipole. They are also known for being poor performers on low-band.

I'd rather spend $100 on a Diamond D-130J than $300 for a Ferret 8.

Scantenna might work too for 50 bucks but it has tv type elements which can be flimsy. Marginal to ok on 800, but better in the VHF hi/lo as it's longest elements are 6' or so.

Agreed with Rich. I had the Ferret at one point, and ended up dumping it after a small mishap. I'd drop the money into a discone, either the Diamond or similar. I personally had great luck with a VHF/UHF milsurp discone, adding a 10-meter whip to the top for increased low band coverage. Added to that install a yagi (thanks Marcus!) with an antenna rotator, and I was in business.

Don't bother with the Scantenna. I had one for less than a month; it was a craptacular pile of steaming dung.
