W-O-W. Not that we can hear TRBO systems, but any idea what range in the spectrum they're using? |

99% certain it's UHF just based on availability of the equipment. Most of their customers are using UHF analog right now so it'd make sense from a migration standpoint too. |

SMS-like over the radio then, utilizing the front keypad of the radio you think? |

Ok so, there's an important distinction to make. New digital systems have "text messaging" but it isn't SMS and it doesn't traverse or connect to any cellular providers. Although there are software APIs that would let a third party, possibly, develop a gateway. I haven't looked into that too much. The messaging uses canned messages and keypad. |

Yea, thanks. After I posted that, I thought about it and remembered it wasn't much like cellular SMS. I watched a YouTube video (now I'm an expert :bowrofl: :bsflag: ) on messages from radio to radio a while back and though it was neat. Local DEA/CCNU folks have XTS series radios with full keypad and use them to send short messages to each other when they have time or don't want to talk over the radio. |

It's cool stuff. The dev kits for TRBO and NXDN are out there and just waiting for new ideas. It's kind of like the iPhone. The radio by themselves are great, but some brilliant ideas on what else you can do (like iPhone apps) is what will really be fun to see. An example idea 3rd parties have done are to write complete software dispatch solutions for TRBO. So you have an IP connection from a PC to all your radios and you can dispatch over them, remotely, with no added hardware, and still take full advantage all the features the platform offers. |

Remember, with TRBO, you are stuck with sole-source. With NXDN, you are not. http://www.push-to-talk.org/nxdnforum.htm |

It is definitely UHF. Sites are at Davis Peak near Woodland, Rainier Hill near Longview, KGON in Portland, Goat Mt east of Woodburn, Prospect Peak near Salem, and Blanton (?) near Eugene |
