Just looked at the RS web site and they have the GRE scanners for sale as well as
the RS models now.

Jim, look at what the 'shack' has dropped in the last few years. Their branded labels are disappearing in favor of what GRE decided to do by selling their own product instead of private labeling it for the 'shack'. Another clue is the mark down of the digital scanners. I see the 106/197 going soon like the 96/2096 did and possibly few if no RS branded scanners and only the OEM label. Probably a GRE 510/610? digital radio later on in the 3rd or 4th quarter based on the iScan platform is what I'm guessing. GRE can convince the shack to let them do the pick and shovel work. Who knows if the Shack will be a player in the current decade?

All the RS scanners were made for them by GRE and Bearcat/Uniden.

No use having them have to make two runs of the same thing.

It probably will cost RS less in the future to sell the scanners under their makers brands.

I can remember the days when you ran to the store because the new catalog was out and you wanted to see what was in there. It made me :D when there was new stuff to drool over!

I can remember doing the same thing. :D

I think I still have a copy of the RS catalogs from 1972 to the last one.

Fun to look up old stuff and as a reference.

I miss them. The internet is OK but I liked the catalogs better.

I had a GRE Radio Shack scanner when I was at Ft Stewart.
It went in for warranty work, then later quit working altogether. Less then a year old.
