The tin foil hatters are going crazy because allegedly this signal has stopped transmitting. Conspiracy theorists conspire that its part of the "Dead Hand" system.

Afaik there is no official explanation as to the purpose of this shortwave radio station, anybody have any thoughts ?

Wow, I never realized there was so much goofy speculation about the purpose of that transmitter.
Its a military beacon used for field units to determine whether an HF path exists to their location. It is probably headed toward obsolescence in favor of satellite technology.

Wow...I read over some of the schlock on that "Above Top Secret" site....Just wow. I always suspected that the number of people truly "off their meds" was higher than I knew. Now I have proof.
