Post subject:  New Aviation antennas - RadarBox

For those interested in a top notch aviation scanner antenna: Just installed the DPD MilTenna Omni UHF/VHF Air antenna today on a mast at about 30' above ground - it has enhanced my aviation scanning immensely. I can now hear aircraft on the ground at SeaTac which I was never able to do before with a discone from my location east of Woodinville. Also put up the DPD ADS-B antenna for my new Xmas present which is the RadarBox (http://www.airnavsystems.com/RadarBox/index.html) for live tracking of aircraft. It picks up the ADS-B signals broadcast by some aircraft (1090 Mhz) and plots the position, track, altitude, airspeed, etc. on a simulated radar scope. I am plotting aircraft real-time out to about 125 miles. It's really neat to listen to radio traffic on my Icom 1500 and 2500 scanners while watching the real-time track on the radarscope. Also, many RadarBox owners share tracking data via the internet so you can see tracking from other areas around the globe. For the aviation scanners amongst us, I highly recommend the DPD antennas for great construction quality and performance (http://www.dpdproductions.com).

P.S. - I found the lowest price on the RadarBox at R&L Electronics located in Ohio.

Cool setup. I can receive the 1090mhz bursts on my AR3000 and have toyed with the idea of making a software-based decoder. As with most projects the time never seems to materialize. Its good to see you have found a quality airband antenna. My wideband antenna experience was similar to your discone; somewhat usable and somewhat deaf.
