I'm planning to start "using" the 536HP more seriously this weekend. I haven't had any energy to play with it and do more experiments. (I had the flu last week.)

I got lucky and mine doesn't have the headphone issue. According to Uniden, only a batch of units were affected with wrong components.

Received my 536HP this morning and had it up and running in 10 minutes after installing Sentinel and upgrading the database and firmware. Punched in my Zip code and just let her run....blew me away with how many services it was picking up. Picking up public safety comms from King, Kitsap, Island, Snohomish, and Skagit Counties with Range set to 20 miles from my near Monroe location - pretty sure that range setting is a bit bogus since I getting reception further out than that but still love the Zip and Go feature. Now to get down to playing with some editing and programming of my own to get the received channels down to a more reasonable number. No headphone hiss with my radio. Anxiously awaiting the App for iPhone/iPad. I am very impressed so far!

Yep, the "range" is dependent on the geo-settings and ring size of the system or licensee location based on the included data. It can be a bit askew. So you might want to perform some range edits to any FL's that you create. It is very easy to modify the raw DB data for FL's and such. Fortunately the FL's are not touched by the weekly master DB updates.

Kelly,.... did the replacement 536hp look new, I have to send mine back to, it falls in the bad S/N range. No humming sound just a loud popping sound on the front jack at the start and end of transmission, so far I love this scanner, I cant Waite for my 436 to get here. then I will send out the 536.

Check your charge card if you bought it direct from Uniden, mine got charged today the 436 is on it way, sending my 536 back for the headphone thing, but so far this is a fun new toy, limited by the other sites Database, but with the software you can do what ever you want, and with the wifi software whenever that shows up you should be able to control this thing with your cell phone, put it in the trunk, speaker in your car, install done.

oh sweet thanks for the info.. I did HRO so likely another week till they get it.

I wouldn't say the database is limited. its got a significant amount of data obviously. Sure its likely missing some obscure things here and there, but that isnt what the database is intended for. and like you said the FL are a quick way to resolve that.

I do like the System Dept Channel keys they are really nice feature.

I am listening to KCMT TDMA system, thats super cool. after listening to it for about 10min I am not sad I couldn't monitor it - kinda boring.

This is only my 3rd Uniden, my 1st one is a old bearcat 20/20 from the 70's that my dad gave me its only VHF/UHF, but still works.. With the orginal attenna...going to plug it in now...just good for for ? WSP. Just looking at the orginal Manual that came with it.cover states Bearcat 20/20 40 channel Crystalles Scanner.from the electra CO. And she come alive, interesting fact the Sq works backwards from todays scanners, it sounds good and clear......WOW this thing sounds loud and clear, I just might keep it unboxed and just use it for VHF. Fun fact the manual has 17 pages ...page 5 to 10 on how to program your new scanner...boy things have changed.

After 6pm it gets very quiet although you may hear a few scary driver moments where cops are called in for whatever reason... but the radio traffic drops to a minimum.

The best days are the holidays/parades/sporting events... that's when it gets rather interesting... even snow days are fun.
