thanks guys :)

So this Sentinel Software.. I have done a lot of work for my "favorites list" when it 'updates' the database if there is a change will it auto update my list? or just the "Database"

The biggest problem with this scanner so far.. is there to too much damn data there to listen to.. haha - I havent tried anything fancy yet with monitoring the DOJ or DOD or KCMT just been trying to understand the system for manual entry and the cool iphone app.

also service types, amazing feature.

update found my answer.. this is a big BOO, but I get it...
Are Favorites Lists automatically updated when the database is?
No. It is prudent to keep an eye on the favorites lists you use regularly and compare them to the latest database.

also you see there is a factory recall on them already due to the headphone buzz? haha ..damn.

In my opinion, this is a good thing. The master DB is based on data from members. That includes the geo settings (range), Alpha Tag names for ID's, etc. A favorites list will allow you to change all that to fit your own personal taste. By modifying the information you can arrange all data and frequencies and set your own naming convention. It is your own private DB. If the DB were to update the private favorite lists, all that work would disappear. So I don't mind having to make a manual change if needed. I have hardly touched my HP1 favorites lists.

As an example: I changed the way some PD departments appear (name wise). I also changed their categories. Redmond PD is LAW DISP. Kirkland & Bellevue is on LAW TAC. KCSO is on LAW TALK. State is on MULTI DISP. Eastside fire is on FIRE DISP. ValleyCom is on FIRE TAC and Seattle FD is on FIRE TALK. So when I am driving if I want to turn a particular department on, all I do is push the "service" that it is under. It helps to allow me to keep my eyes on the road. Just an example of how creative you can get with the favorites list. You can enter and arrange whatever and however you want it. I have favorite lists for Pierce and Snohomish counties. I changed some of the geo settings on all of the trunk systems so that I can listen to King county for a longer distance when using the GPS but pierce or snohomish will turn on/off very close to their respective county lines. As you can guess, I don't use the full database when I'm local. If i were to travel out of the area I use the GPS and full database (not the favorites list).

Hope this helps you to imagine some of the creative things you can do.

The function button won't work any more. Seems like a failure of hardware. But I will give it a shot.

Kelly - did you get a new replacement 536 yet from HRO? I'm sure they were willing to just replace it for you. I wondered if the back and forth swap had happened yet.

yes so they were going to replace it for me no questions asked. But then it snowed. So I took uniden up on the offer of free replacement - because they would also fix the headphone issue.. my scanner sits in TX right now.. likely for a month.. great.

So having spent all that cash to play with the radio for 20 min .. I then purchased the 435... awesome right? no.. turns out the one unit that HRO portland had they sold to a walk in and didnt bother shipping it to me .. again .. thanks snow. and I quote "it wouldnt have shipped anyway, the deliver man isnt coming today"

well thanks for nothing.

Today I called AZ HRO just for grins.. he had a unit not 30min prior, sold to a walk in.. I asked why would they not fill back orders in PDX first. he didnt have much to offer. but I will tell you this.. I will be using a new HRO office for future purchases.

and I sold all my other scanners. so HAHA on me. oh well, eventually they will be here and I can go over and bitch about dumb things and just say UPMAN fix this please or I am returning the radio. haha

thats my saga at the moment. I had to listen to a "scanner feed" today.. it was horrific. I couldnt do it. I heard there are 2 DXpeditions right now on 20 but never home when they are pumping the 599's

They can be really great for some items. I've generally never had an issue with radios, etc. I seem to have bad luck with them and coax. I just ordered last week RG-8x with BNC connectors. Sure enough, I get PL-259. I call back Thursday night (the day I received it) and after I tell them what happened... the guy just made it sound like it was my fault. The order slip showed BNC connectors too. Someone just pulled the wrong item. Of course, there's *no way* they can ship the replacement out on Thursday. Got the correct item yesterday but still just a PITA.

Can you listen to cell phone conversations yet? How about encrypted P25 or TRBO? How about NXDN?

No? Bummer dude.
