I may buy it as I missed out on the chance to get a PSR800. Just hope there's a way to lose the useless database it comes with and do my own. I'll use the wifi feature about as often as I use Facebook- that is to say, never.

As an aside, I love some of the comments floating around the web. A brand new radio that does Phase 2 and X2, and these guys are whinging about the lack of decoding for TRBO and NXDN...2 proprietary standards, and every TRBO system I've ever used utilizes encryption. But that's okay, if a new scanner came out that did every standard under the sun, including OpenSky and MPT1327, someone would whine that they didn't like the battery connector or the display color or something.

Surprisingly, Uniden seems to be aware of that problem:

Just another aside. Ya gotta love how everyone has to wait until "possibly the first week of February" for their pre-ordered Unidens, even those that paid for them more than a few months ago. Meanwhile, loosely defined "database administrators" over there are getting theirs ASAP.

No favoritism, product placement or cronyism to see here, sheep! Just send Scannermaster your $600 and you'll be the first kid on your block to get one...sometime.

I was kind of excited about them but I think I'll wait until after the first few months... let them work out the bugs first...

Monitoring KCMT voice traffic isn't very exciting...

Not true, not sure where you get your info from Wil, but the discount is less then thirty bucks, and no one there has got a BCD536HP as they don't go on sale till 24Jan14 and will not ship before that date, I did pony up and buy one, still looks like I got bent over for a bit more then $600.

Let's get a beer sometime.

P.S. if you want one at that price, let me know I will get you one,

I didn't say a word about a discount, merely that I don't approve of the RR "admins" getting the 536HP before anyone else.

Go to the other board, look in the "Uniden Scanners" forum, under the "BCD536HP Discussion Thread". UPMAN posted on 01/14/14 at 1:51pm:

Quote:
We made special arrangements to get a few units aired in so that we could take care of orders we got from the admins here at Radio Retard, and they should be getting them today and tomorrow...Note that we've not shipped a single unit out to distributors, yet, so if you hear otherwise, it just ain't so.

Partially right; TRBO is based on the DMR spec, which is an open digital radio standard for professional mobile radio (PMR) users. Customized, so not completely interoperable but easily reverse engineered. NXDN is most definitely an Icom/Kenwood thing.
Wilrobnson wrote:

TRBO only has 256 encryption keys. With a couple of hours of traffic you could figure it out. No OTAR, so you either live with it or touch every radio often. It's global per radio (not zone, not channel) and user-toggleable. Here's a screenshot of CPS:

And here's what the docs have to say when you enable it per-channel:
Motorola technical writers wrote:
This feature allows privacy on selected digital channels. Privacy is a software-based scrambling solution that is not robust, and is only meant to prevent eavesdropping. The signaling and user identification portions of a transmission are not scrambled.

We'll need to start calling Ken "WonderBoy" in that case.
