LOL...best I got for that is a repair contract

Our company doesn't have any 'solutions providers' but I can give you some insight. Depending on your set up there are plenty of options that range from a lap top and a cheap scanner to wireless access points, controller boxes, wireless computers with GPS tracking that can upload real time inventory cellularly to a nationwide EMS inventory tracking center...

A basic set up for personal or just shop inventory could consist of a laptop/desktop computer, a small relatively cheap hand held scanner (wired or bluetooth), a small label printer, barcode creation software (might be able to get away with free options on the internet), and some sort of software (as simple as MS Excel or as nice as a custom Access Database or custom software package). Create labels, scan them in and out of inventory on your computer...done! In the barcoding industry you can usually buy equipment in regular and rugged styles. Rugged often means environment and personnel proof.

Let me know if I am extremely off base, or if you want any more information about something that sounded interesting.

Prost

Yeah, I think a laptop and a cheap scanner of some sort would be just the ticket. Anything would be better than what we do now, which is track useage on a yellow leagl pad! I know I can create the barcodes with free software, I just need to find something that will track inventory in and out. (Free there would be great too!)

Any insight would be awesome.+

I would think any 'nerd' that knows MS Access could create an inventory data base for you with the required forms that you need (for ins and outs and the such). I have a friend who knows Access pretty well, I could see what that would take. Or you can contact a business solutions provider (or maybe even just a web developer, they usually have good database knowledge). An Excel sheet could also do the trick. You will program the scanner its self to do any automation you might want. You can program the scanner to automatically 'tab,' 'enter,' or basically strike any other key before or after the information on the barcode is displayed on screen.

Yeah. Any help would be good.

Any thoughts on a cheap scanner I could use to get started?
