Man, wish I'd have seen this 2 weeks ago... just bought the 436HP and so far find it mystifying at best. And yes, programming it so far seems extremely difficult. Could be a problem on my side, but I'm not finding this thing intuitive in any way.

Yeah it takes some patience. I've heard good things about the Butel software. The PRO version is not cheap but users claim it's better than the Uniden software.

I've never used it so I can't comment.

Thanks for the reply, Nickcarr.

I guess I'll hold off upgrading unless I just spy one for great price.

Too bad to hear it's such a pita to program, looked like a dream handheld scanner.

Dan, you can pick up a GRE PSR 800 for $300 on E-Bay. It lacks a keypad but in some ways, it's nice that way. The GRE software isn't too bad to master. It's a little "busy" at first (so much to look at) but it's pretty easy to get the hang of it.

A few of us on here own one so we can help with it...

Well...that's interesting.

Is this an attempt at redemption?

Hopefully it's compatible with the RH96 remote head. Which definetly would be a sign of redemption.

Current thinking is that it probably won't since the new unit has USB. You may need to buy a different head.

Must be. This is what they should have done in the first place. I wonder how many 536 owners are kicking themselves after seeing this.

1. Uniden is going to get a sh*tload of hate mail
2. E-Bay will be the winner as they'll see hundreds for sale soon (if not already)
3. Uniden better make the 996P2 work as good as the 536HP (or better) or else...

The Uniden rep answered this and said no, it's not compatible. No idea if that means there will *never* be support but it doesn't sound like it.

He also said that it's the same RF components as the 996XT. So my guess is that means no AMBE+2 vocoder.

So basically this will be a 996XT + USB + Phase 2 support. That's it.
