Tax write off ?? They can sell scanners at half the price and still make money. Lowering the price a few hundred bucks -- does not even get them a dime back in tax write offs. The high costs of Police Scanners is killing off the hobby.

The high costs --- of "police scanners" is not what is killing the hobby -- but rather the proliferation of "scanner apps" for smartphone users and online streaming -- who wants to buy a scanner and learn how to program it -- saying nothing about understanding radio systems -- when they can pay 99-cents for an app ???

High costs ?? Yes -- P25 phase 2 decoding and X2 -- not to mention paying engineers to design them !!

Be thankful that there is still enough demand for new scanners -- and not abandonment of "R&D" with the explanation "well everyone can just use their phones now" !!

The hobby is not the scanner, the hobby is listening to the action

The radio scanner is the primary tool of the hobby. "Cellphone Apps". Internet audio feeds and the high costs of scanners - all limit more persons from the real hobby. Yes -- listening to the action is part of the hobby -- but only a part. Understanding "radio communications" is now also a main part of the hobby.
