By the looks of that coil I'd say the radiation efficiency is nothing to write home about. Using your photo as an example, you would be much better off throwing the antenna away and loading the mast its attached to.

Alternatively you could spend half as much money and buy a Firestik/Hamstick which will have much better performance.
