I almost thought this was in Washington State when I first saw the article...

I'd love to get one of those sometimes...Movies, work, etc.

Of course, where I am now there's barely any signal outside (BDAs abound inside) and everyone has either a Wilson amp system or a Moto M900 or the like in their vehicle. Kinda nice when someone parks next to me and I go from 1 bar of signal to 5 until they drive off...

This might look familiar if you take a close look at the jammer in the video.

Mt Spokane high school set up jamming device a few years ago.
Parents caught on, FCC educated the school district on such devices.

I read a followup story stating that web searches for "cell phone jammers" this past weekend went up by a billion %. Because of this story presumably.

Personally, I don't mind when people use a cell phone in a public place as long as you are discrete about it. It is possible to hold a conversation without letting everyone around you know your business.

I get this guys frustration tho. I've been on the bus when a person seems to think they are using two soup cans and string to communicate.

As the old saying goes, it only takes one bad apple.

Amtrak on the Cascades trains have been know to threaten and throw folks off when they are too loud. Every other person I see driving is yakking with the phone up to their ear in plain view as if the hands-free law didn't exist.

I remember a story from within the past few years where they threw some lady off. PD met them at a crossing and yanked her out after she had been yapping for more than 2 hours. I think she got on in Fresno or somewhere thereabouts. And after it happened she was complaining about how rudely everyone treated her.

Cascades actually has a nice little vestibule for cell phone usage.

I sometimes wonder if certain drive-thru restaurants are using cell-phone jamming equipment. At some restaurants my scanner goes nuts and stops on a random frequency and squawks until I get 10 or 20 feet away from the window again. I always figured they were using a cell phone jammer or possibly their headsets were FH/SS and just splattering RF all over the whole dial.

There are a number of reasons for this.

The sheer amount of (very noisy) electronics in a Fast Food restaraunt are the likely source of this.\

For example, what does your scanner do when you get close to a computer monitor?
How many monitors are in a Fast Food restaraunt?

Also, I have seen noise from light fixtures, flourescents etc...

Scanners are extremely wide-band on their front end, so that they can listen DC to light like we all want to do.

This combination leads me to turn the volume down at the drive-thru, or simply eat better...

:D Good point on both counts. I figured it might be something like that. Some places get me every time, other places never seem to affect it. Those places must have better/newer/more carefully installed equipment.

I get mean intermod on WSP's Lind, WA dispatch channel whenever I'm within a block or so of Qwesterylink's downtown Spokane CO as well. Now that I think about it, it happens on the scanner, but not the Amateur rig that is also usually scanning. Must be the better front end on the Kenwood.
