I have just learned about ACARS and I live less than 1 mile from the south end of Paine Field. Does anybody have a dedicated ACARS setup? I have tried a few programs for the pc and one for the Mac but nothing seems to be consistant. :-) Thx for any info.

Josh

I use PDW for POCSAG decoding and it works well. Just checked and it also supports ACARS decoding.

I'm a big fan of ACARSD myself.

works great if you have the volume just right on the radio

Thanks guys for the info. I am trying out a few different applications and a few different radios. Not quite figured out the best, less expensive setup or best way to decode the MSG. I'll report back shortly after I try out another scanner.

I use ACARSD for the messages, but I also use PlanePlotter for the map.

if you really like acars messages and have a hf receiver with ssb mode you should try hfdl

there is a program that work very well at decoding hfdl.
the program is called PC-HFDL
(note pc-hfdl can be tied in to google earth map to show you where in the world the aircraft is )

hfdl messaages are similare to acars messages...alot of it is coded but ther are some plain text messages similar to vhf acars messages..some very strange .. you just have to be quick at catching them before the next message is sent either from another aircraft or the ground station

Ok I have PlanePlotter and ACARSD running. Next is to read the manual. :-) I am getting the msgs but need to do some work on getting more info than just the tail number and time stamp. :-) I'll report back soon. Thanks again everyone.
p.s. I downloaded PC-HFDL and have it running but I need to connect a HF receiver still. :-)
