An old Privacy Plus MaxTrac came in yesterday. The rash took over my whole arm and I had to take the rest of the day off. If it hadn't been for the LTR mod Doug performed on it years ago I wouldn't be posting here today.

Not anymore, I'm OLD, as you kids keep reminding me.

Sadly, I was up 'til 0300.

How long ago was it that you invited me out to your Greater King County Metal Container Inspection Party? The one that started at 2300 and ended at 0300?

Hey, there was punch and pie provided, though you didn't miss much.

My Grandkids love to ask "Papa, how OLD are you"
To which I answer "See that DIRT?!?, I am older than IT!"

The problem with the ones on eBay is they lack the 2.5 kHz step capability. Figure that one out...

Hmm. At least the ones from Main Trading advertise the 2.5 deviation but they are out of stock and around $180.

The new model, the KGUV-6D supports 2.5 step. The older models like the 3D and the 1D are what you are thinking of.

I picked up one of these for a friend and it is indeed quite a bit better than the 1P model. The modulation is much improved and puts out a cleaner signal than before. It supports the 2.5khz stepping.

FYI, the first KGV6D I received was defective and I had to buy a 2nd one (to ship it out before x-mas.) Powerwerx took care of me though. They are good folks and will make it right. The 2nd unit worked just fine.

PS. I still say if you need a "reliable" FPP radio that will last a while -- do not get the Wouxun radios. They are plastic and will not likely hold up to daily abuse.

Check these out. Taking Rich's recommendation, I hit up eBay and this is what I found:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/WOUXUN-KG-UV6D- ... 712wt_1037

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wouxun-KG-UV6D- ... 336de2ff28

They specify KG-UV6D but also specify no 2.5 kHz. I've asked the sellers but all I got back from all of them was an engrish reply similar to "I don't know why they don't have 2.5 kHz step capabilities."

Right -- my guess would be that there's an international model and a USA model. The USA model is FCC certified for 2.5khz steps...

The Powerwerx model is the one you want. :)

UPDATE: This makes sense because the Powerwerx model only supports 406-470 and the Ebay models support a wider range -- meaning it's a different model. (If you recall, there were several versions of the 1P with different frequency bands.)
